Bhutan's currency is the ngultrum although the Indian Rupee is universally accepted and in fact is interchangeable with the local notes.

Bhutan is not a 'cheap' place to visit, but, thankfully, even those with only limited time and funds can still gain a truly remarkable experience in just 4 days in Bhutan. Visit the fertile and historic valley of Paro, then stay in the capital of Thimphu - one of the few places with 'shops' in all of Bhutan, to buy those magical memoirs of your soulful visit to the last Shangri-la.

Day 1
Arrive Paro and onto Thimpu

Arrive Paro transfer by car to Thimphu via a spectacularly scenic road. Thimphu is a bustling town on the banks of the Thimpu Chhu and set gloriously in the hills of the Thimpu valley. Since the 1950's it has been the seat of the Royal (and now parlimentary) government and is home to several foreign missions and development organisations. It also has Bhutan's only golf course; a nine-hole circuit situated next to the magnificent Dzong.. Check in at your hotel, then you will enjoy a stroll through the town.

The capital is the centre of Bhutan's rapid growth and the outskirts show significant construction work. But the importance of the national identity is shown by the many people wearing national dress and the compete absence of western style advertising.
Meals: (Lunch/Dinner)

Day 2
In Thimphu

Morning visits to the hospital for traditional medicine, Memorial Chorten and the National Library. After lunch visit the handicrafts centre & the school of Thangka painting. We also highly recommend a visit to the Folk History Museum. Founded by Her Majesty the Queens Mother Ashi Dorj Wangamo Wangchuck, the museum is a fascinating look at the life of a genteel family in the Thimpu valley several centuries ago
Meals: (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 3
Thimphu - Paro by car

Morning drive to Paro valley where you will visit the fortified tower of Ta Dzong, now a natural history museum- one of the finest in Asia. The cantilver bridge that leads up to it is an excellent spot for a photo. After this, drive towards northern part of the Paro valley to view the impressive Drugyal Dzong ruins perched on a hill that once resisted the invading forces from Tibet. Built in 1649 the the Dzong was said to have housed the armoury in the country. Check out the intriguing pictures on the walls of the village houses as you approach the ruins. On the way back stop to view the famous Taktsang retreat (the Tiger's Nest) nestled on a cliff. In the afternoon you will visit the Paro Rinpung Dzong and the market.
Meals: (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
